I’ve always enjoyed and fully appreciated the outdoors and made the most of the opportunities that have come my way to explore our wonderful country.
My absolute favorites remain the Natal Drakensberg, Bush and the Anglo-Zulu battlefields. I have hiked and ambled around in the Drakensberg mountains for years and even lived in that beautiful environment for a while. My wife, Ingrid, grew up on a farm there. It is always a tonic for the soul. I have also been most fortunate to have spent a lot of time in the bush in our parks and reserves and have taken many people with me on visits. Every such occasion is exciting. I spent some years as an Honorary Ranger assisting our National Parks in their work which was very interesting and a great learning exercise. I have read many of the stories on the Anglo-Zulu War and battlefields for years and have visited them on many occasions. Each and every visit is special.
My guests and clients, culture vultures they are, love to get out on the “roads less traveled” with me. I focus as much attention on the “passage”, the getting there, as I do the destination. And we have a great time.
When you enjoy your work as much as I do, it is no longer work. How lucky can I be!
